Grandma’s Unexpected Travels; Where It All Began

As child my family would take little trips with in 2 – 3 hours of home and that would constitute vacation. My family was lower income and these trips were monumentus to my sister and myself. I always thought traveling was for the rich and famous, like movie stars. Then I grew up.

I started my family with the mindset that we were destined to follow the same path as my family. We had struggles along with great memories. That’s life, right? Only a few lucky people break the mold of their childhood. Then 16years into my marriage it fell apart. I was not as upset about the failed marriage as I was the feeling of something more to discover.

Feeling unsettled, I tried to focus on being a mom. Doing the daily grind. At the time we lived in a small town of approx. 3200 people. The small town was nestled between Pocono Mountains, Philadelphia, New York City and the Jersey shore. Seems like so many possibilities to many people. But I yearned to learn about people, cultures and places outside of what I knew.

In 2014 I was afforded the opportunity to move to California. Land of fame and excess, glitz and glam. With two girls, just entering teenage years, I thought “Go for it!”. This started a journey I had only dreamed of.
